Why Sri Lanka keeps calling us back

Sri Lanka is one of those places that stays with you. As we get ready to return this October, we’re sharing what we love about this incredible country and why it keeps calling us back.

Some countries stay with you long after you have returned home.

For us, Sri Lanka is one of those places. We are incredibly excited to be going back in October this year. It is a country we genuinely love, and the thought of returning brings back so many happy memories, the people we met, the places we visited, the food we enjoyed and those wonderful moments that are difficult to put into words.

Sri Lanka has a warmth about it that you feel almost as soon as you arrive. The people are kind, welcoming and genuinely proud to share their country with you. It never feels forced, it is simply part of who they are. It is often the small conversations and unexpected moments along the way that become some of your favourite memories.

What amazes us most is how much variety Sri Lanka offers. You can explore ancient temples and historic cities, climb Sigiriya Rock, travel through rolling tea plantations, see elephants in the wild and then spend a few relaxing days beside the Indian Ocean.

No two days need to feel the same.

One of our favourite ways to experience Sri Lanka is with a private driver-guide. It allows you to travel at your own pace, stop when something catches your eye and see parts of the country you might otherwise miss. Your driver-guide becomes an important part of the journey, sharing local knowledge and bringing the country to life in a way that a guidebook simply cannot.

The wildlife is another reason Sri Lanka holds such a special place in our hearts. Seeing elephants roaming freely in their natural surroundings is something we will never tire of. There is a real sense of excitement when you head out on safari, never knowing exactly what you might see.

Then there is the food. From freshly prepared curries and coconut sambols to seafood, tropical fruit and the most wonderful local flavours, every meal feels like part of the adventure. Sharing food with local people and trying something new is often when you feel closest to a destination.

Of course, Sri Lanka is also somewhere you can simply slow down.

Whether that is sitting with a cup of tea looking across the hills, watching the sun set over the ocean or enjoying a quiet morning in a beautiful hotel, the country gives you time to breathe and appreciate where you are.

Our trip this October is about reconnecting with a country we love, but it is also about continuing to learn. We will be revisiting some favourite places, meeting our trusted local partners and discovering new hotels and experiences that we can share with our clients.

For us, this first-hand knowledge really matters. We would never want to recommend a holiday based only on what looks good in a brochure. We want to know what the journey feels like, how long the transfers really take, where the best stops are and which experiences genuinely make a trip special.

Love Travel Adventures is very personal to us. When you book with us, you deal directly with the two of us, Craig and Heather. We listen to what you want, learn what matters to you and then create an itinerary that feels like your holiday, not somebody else’s package.

We know Sri Lanka will welcome us back with the same warmth and generosity we remember, and we cannot wait to share our journey with you.

If Sri Lanka is somewhere you have always dreamed of visiting, perhaps now is the time to start planning. We would love to help you discover the country that captured our hearts, and continues to call us back.
